Hello! My name is Claire (Stapo to some) and I created Stapo’s thrifty life hacks.
I live and work in Greater Manchester with my husband (Mr St) and our two children; Arthur and Rosa.
In my professional life, I’m a journalist-turned-copywriter, with over 16 years of digital experience. This means that I’m able to work with companies and brands in a number of exciting ways.
What’s this website about?
I’d been meaning to set up a blog for a lot of years, but I never quite got around to it. However, when I was furloughed from my job as a travel copywriter in April 2020, I decided the time was now. Stapo’s thrifty life hacks was then born.
You might be wondering what makes me qualified to talk about money and mental health and the short answer is: my lived experience.
I spent my twenties getting myself into a deep financial mess and learning how to manage the anxiety that came with it. I felt stupid. Stupid for getting myself into the situation and stupid for not knowing how to get myself out of it. But I managed to develop the tools and the skills that I needed to change my life. I definitely learnt the hard way, so I wanted to create a place to share that knowledge, because I wish I’d know this stuff sooner.
There are lots of ideas out there that claim to make you money, save you money and make life better. But do they actually work? On this site, I’m honest with you about what has and what hasn’t worked for me, so you can decide if you’d like to try something for yourself.
Ultimately, I hope that this website will help to make your life smoother and happier. My Home Page explains how to navigate the website, so you can get the most out of your time here.
As seen in…
As well as being feature in the publications listed above, Stapo’s thrifty life hacks was named as Mrs Crunch’s money saving website of the week and we were proud to make the shortlist for the ‘Best New Money blog award’ at The 2020 SHOMO Awards.
