The rise of the lifestyle blogger

The number of bloggers and influencers sharing their lives and opinions has increased. There are now over 500 million blogs on the internet, which accounts for over a quarter of websites in the world and there are new Instagram accounts opening daily. But is the market now too saturated to make an impression? I don’t think so and I’ve personally enjoyed carving out my own niche within the blogging world.

What is a lifestyle influencer?

You might wonder what makes somebody an influencer. The definition varies, depending on who you ask. But generally speaking, an influencer is somebody that the power to impact peoples’ purchasing decisions. That authority is driven by the influencer’s knowledge, position, or relationship with their audience. The influencer usually has a following in a particular niche. They will then actively engage with others that share that interest.

Those that operate in the lifestyle niche usually discuss their daily activities and interests. These influencers share their knowledge with their audience through blogs and social media accounts. Each lifestyle influencer approaches it slightly differently and everybody has their own unique motivations and aspirations.

Is the market too saturated?

There may be a lot of blogs on the internet, but how many people are active in the influencer world? Some people decide to try to make a mark, but they realise it isn’t for them and disappear into the abyss.

You are a unique person that has their own thing to offer, so if you think that it’s something you’d enjoy, then you should give it a try. If you don’t give it a go, then you will never know. You might find that you’re surprised by how quickly your accounts can evolve and grow.

Do all influencers have blogs?

You don’t have to have a blog to be a lifestyle influencer. Some focus on Instagram, whilst others concentrate on YouTube, or TikTok. However, if you do have a blog, then your social media accounts provide you with a platform to share it from and a place to grow your audience.

Can anybody do it?

If you think you have something of value to share then you probably do and there’s nothing to stop you from sharing your knowledge and growing your tribe. You just need to have confidence in yourself and realise that there are people out there who will take an interest in what you’re saying.

Do you have to be young?

We all have an image in our head of what a lifestyle influencer looks like and you may presume that you have to be young to make an impact. However, that’s just not the case. People relate to lifestyle influencers that they like and have things in common with. This means that men and women in their 40’s, 50’s and 60’s can influence just as much as somebody in their 20’s.

My story

I would not describe myself as a lifestyle influencer, but I have a blog and my social media following is growing by the day. On my bog and my social media accounts, I talk honestly about the stuff I know about. I talk about money, motherhood and wellbeing and my followers share those interests.

Although I am new to this world, I am seeing a great rate of growth. I launched my blog and my social media accounts in April. I’d been furloughed from my job, as a result of the pandemic, when I decided to launch. But the truth is, I’ve been on the periphery of the lifestyle blogging and influencer world for a long time. I have followed others, I’ve been influenced and I knew that I had something unique of my own to add to the niche.

The future

Over the past 12 months, many people have found that they’ve time on their hands. Time to spend with their families, time to explore new hobbies and time to rethink their options. As a result, there has been a surge in sharing. There are new blogs appearing every day and more and more people are sharing aspects of their lives and growing their tribes.

This industry is booming, but there is still space for new people. There is nothing to stop you growing and evolving with the industry.
